Samuel "The Captain" Robert Weir '65 passed away on Sunday, November 6th.

A celebration of his life was held at the Port-Au-Peck Volunteer Fire Company, 433 Myrtle Ave Oceanport, New Jersey on Saturday, November 12th.Tons of great memories of Brother Weir can be found here. 

Sam was born on January 21st, 1943, in Media Pennsylvania. He competed backstroke in States and studied Mining Chemistry at Penn State University. He married Mary Esta Patterson while they studied for Masters Degrees. They held Charles Boon Weir in their arms at graduation. Sam loved working on houses and flea markets. He used to say, "We've furnished houses with stuff we found in the trash!" He also enjoyed the ocean. He took Christopher Joseph Weir to the beach when he was only three days old.

Sam is survived his ex-wife, Mary Patterson Weir and two sons, Charlie and Chris. Charlie and Nancy Januzzi Weir have Nathaniel and Isobel. Chris and Marianne Perrin Weir have Stephen and Joseph. A Brother of Mr. Weir during their days at 360 E. Hamilton shared the following memory:

Cliff McKrell '67: "Very sorry to hear of Sam's passing. Many fun memories from 360 East Hamilton- the bat, his masterminding the "popcorn party." Also finding a book in the library about rehabbing homes at the shore - looked at the picture of the author and said"that's Sam Weir!" it was. saw him last at a Homecoming about 1970... a fun time then too! 

A bat flew into his room one night. Sam caught it and kept it in a box as a "pet," for a day or two. The popcorn jammy was during rush (my freshman year) - party room in the house was filled with popcorn about a foot deep. Lots of laughs and beer and people throwing the popcorn and jumping into it like a leaf pile. Reportedly, it was Sam's idea. You could rattle the ceiling years later and popcorn would fall out. I remember Homecoming - Sam came back to the house on roller skates (from the stadium).
