Drew Reiferson, '90, doesn't have one good reason to donate to the capital campaign. He has many. Reiferson writes:
"When Bob reached out to me and
asked me join in the drive, I knew it was something that I wanted to do,
had to do. I guess we all contribute for different reasons. Some want
Chi Phi to continue so that Chi Phi is there for future brothers. Maybe
some give because it means something to the brother who call them asking
them to join. My reason isn't so noble, it is more selfish.
For me it is part of the memories I
have of two good friends whom I rushed with and pledged with and partied
with every weekend who are no longer with us, one of them whose marble
stone rests at the base of the steps to the house. It's because
sometimes in a quiet moment, when I am sipping on a good beer or
bourbon, and the kids and the wife are sleeping, I can think of a time
when the pressures of a job and of being a husband and father didn't
exist and I got to spend some great times with a great group of brothers
in a great year of my life. On the rare occasion when I visit Happy
Valley, I drive by that house and it is worth something to me that it be
there when I do. Maybe one day, maybe in another 20 years, I'd like to
sit on one of the couches in that house, drink a good beer, hopefully
with one or more of the brothers from my time, and enjoy the memories.
Maybe having that house there is worth something to you too."
