I'd like to thank everyone who submitted my name in nomination of a PSU Board of Trustee position. The nominations are now finalized. I am # 20 on the ballot and my name is listed as J. Michael Murphy. Voting takes place on-line, for PSU Alumni only, beginning on April 10 and running through 9:00 am on May 3. I will send a reminder before April 10.
My "Position Statement" (250 words or less outlining why I am seeking this position) and biographywill be posted on-line by PSU soon.
There are 86 people running for 3 available positions. With your help, I feel that I've got as good a chance as anyone does at capturing a spot and I know there cannot be anyone on the ballot that is more passionate about Penn State than I am! . The key is to ask you to vote and please ask every PSU alum that you know to cast their vote on my behalf. I am grateful for your support.

You probably recall that I contacted you earlier regarding my efforts to be elected to the Penn State Board of Trustees this spring. I apologize for sending multiple emails, but my decision to run as an independent candidate requires me to run my own “get out the vote” campaign and most of you will not receive ballots without asking.
First, I would like to direct you to my campaign website, which my Penn State daughter recently set up for me: http://www.tomsharbaugh.com/ . The website summarizes my “look forward, not back” approach to this campaign. Most of the discussion initiated by the other candidates is directed at the past. The Sandusky scandal and related events have delivered a huge blow to the University that we love, and I believe that it is time to move forward before our reputation slides any further behind our peer institutions in academics, employment opportunities, student applications, athletics and other areas. We need to capture the spirit of THON 2012 for the entire University.
It is important to note that you will not receive a ballot for the election unless you received a nomination ballot by email back in January or following a request by you. (If you received a nomination ballot, the University will send you an election ballot by email on April 10.) You can easily request an election ballot by email by cutting and pasting the following form and adding the pertinent information:
