Alpha Delta Chapter continues to Build Momentum On Campus, Impact Lives for the Good
By The Actives
Since our re-colonization several years ago, the Alpha Delta chapter of Chi Phi continues to re-establish itself on the campus of Penn State. We reached a new milestone last spring when our colony was again recognized as a chapter by the National Association of Chi Phi fraternity. Representatives joined us at the Kingdom to officially conduct the chartering ceremony.
At our national Congress this summer, several brothers earned individual awards as Pat Jurczyk was recognized as the outstanding Scholastic Chairman and Sam Cramer was recognized as the outstanding Zeta, while Matthew Lasher was one of the few recipients of the Chi Phi Educational Trust Scholarship.
Chi Phi continues to fight cancer through THON efforts. Last year, we helped raise $23,398 and plan to exceed that goal this coming year. We’ll also partner with the dance organization Orchesis this coming THON year. More importantly, we are happy to report to our alumni that our THON family is doing well with Josiah continuing his courageous battle against acute lymphoblastic leukemia. You can follow along on Josiah’s battle at https://www.facebook.com/josiahsbattle?fref=ts. We also hope that you will contribute to this worthy cause this year by visiting the website http://donate.thon.org and also please designate Chi Phi under the subtitle “Organization, Greek, or Couple Dancers.”
Chi Phi continues to be actively involved in other philanthropic efforts and community service such as Relay for Life, A Walk-a-Mile in her Shoes to raise awareness for sexual assault, a Diversity Forum to promote tolerance within the university, Neighbor-to-Neighbor luncheons and a State College Spring Carnival for local children.
Chi Phi was also active in intramural sports and many social functions with sororities as well as a spring formal, all while maintaining a grade point average of over 3.0 last spring. Of course, what we enjoy most is developing the brotherhood in the fraternity, whether it consists of football in our backyard, poker games at night, Sunday night dinner in the dining room or hikes up Mt. Nittany together.
This year, we are planning a strong rush class and to continue to build upon what we have recreated these last several years and to carry on the rich tradition of the Alpha Delta Chapter of Chi Phi that was established by all the brothers of Chi Phi since 1924.
We look forward to seeing many of you this fall and winter at the Kingdom!
